Specs Removal/Refractive Surgery

A refractive error is a very common eye disorder. It occurs when the eye cannot clearly focus the images on the retina hence causing blurred vision.

The most common refractive errors are:

-
Myopia (nearsightedness): difficulty in seeing distant objects clearly;
-
Hyperopia (farsightedness): difficulty in seeing close objects clearly;
-
Astigmatism: distorted vision resulting from an irregularly curved cornea, the clear covering of the eyeball.

Refractive errors cannot be prevented, but they can be diagnosed by an eye examination and treated with corrective glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. Correction is provided in different forms according to the defect, the age Of the person, the requirements in terms of work of activity performed.

WHO estimates that 153 million people worldwide live with visual impairment due to uncorrected refractive errors.
Treatment Options Available at Ace Vision Centre
Refractive surgeries improve your vision by reshaping the cornea which is the front most dome shaped transparent part of the eye. Types of Refractive Surgeries available at our hospital:

-
PRK
-
C-LASIK
-
FEMTO OR ROBOTIC LASIK
-
SMILE (Bladeless, Flapless)
-
ICL(Implantable collamer lenses)
Contact us and book an appointment with our doctor to know which surgery will be best suitable for you.
1. ICL (Implantable Contact/Collamer Lenses)
ICL is implanted inside the eyes between the iris and your natural lens through surgery, hence improving your vision by correcting any refractive error lile:

-
Myopia (nearsightedness)
-
Hypermetropia (farsightedness)
-
Astigmatism
Benefits
In addition to improved vision, there are numerous benefits of an ICL:

-
It can correct very high refractive errors that can’t be corrected with other surgeries.
-
Less chances of dry eye
-
It’s meant to be permanent but can be removed.
-
Recovery is usually quick because tissue isn’t removed.
-
People who can’t get laser eye surgery might be good candidates for ICL (eg.Keratoconus)
Risks
Though ICL surgery has been shown to be safe, it may cause complications such as:

-
Glaucoma
-
Early cataracts
-
Retinal detachment
-
Eye infection (rare)
2. ICL Surgery vs LASIK
LASIK is another type of eye surgery. Like ICL surgery, it’s also used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. But instead of implantation of a permanent lens, it uses a laser to correct vision problems.

Since LASIK removes tissue from the cornea, you might not be a good candidate if you have a thin or irregular cornea (eg. Keratoconus) or a very high refractive error. In this case, ICL surgery might be a better choice.

We at ACE VISION CENTRE we perform ICL surgery with both toric and non toric lenses (for astigmatism correction).
